Ayurvedic Therapy

Ayurvedya known as the science of life dates back to ancient texts from the 10th century A.D. In the Cavaka samhita a text about lifestyle and maintaining health, living a spiritual life is the key to success. This ancient text was written by Patanjal, some scholars say the same Patanjali that compiled the Yoga Sutras yet others say this could not be possible as the same man due to the timescale. In this text the psyche is considered, personality types and conditions were mentioned. The use of doshas- which means that which is unstable.

The 3 doshas are:

  1. vata – that which moves by nature is unstable , all movement is governed by vata. Mostly vata governs the rhythms of the day.
  2. pitta – that which digests heat element , pitta digests food and ideas
  3. katha – that which solidifies

vata when unbalanced is felt in the lower body – COLON
pitta when unbalanced is felt in the – NAVEL
kaptha when unbalanced is felt in the – CHEST,HEART

vata people tend to be hypermobile in joints , 2 areas can be problematic cervical and lumbar. Vata types should practice yoga nidra, softer yoga styles such as yin, restorative yoga and meditation.

Pitta people should not be overheating in yoga asana, pranayama techniques which balance and softer styles such as restorative are good for digestion.

Kaptha people should do strong vinyasa styles to heat and strengthen the body such as Ashtanga, bikram, Jivamukti yoga.

The doshas should be balanced to achieve a sattvic state. Sattvic is our true nature, our true self.

Look at the test to determine your predominant dosha type .
