Benefits of Yoga

All forms of yoga lead us ultimately to a spiritual goal but yoga has many great “effects” to the mind , body and spirit. Here are just a few of them:

It regulates your breathing
By regular control of the breath there can be an increase in stamina , energy levels and in the mind an increase of alertness. It is an effective way of treating ill health.

Energy levels increase
Yoga oxygenates the blood resulting in an increase in the energy stores.

It physically makes the body strong and supple
Yoga works on mostly all the muscles in the body including the eye , tongue and throat muscles rarely used in other forms of exercise. This encourages good health and well being.

It improves your posture
Bad posture can lead to a variety of complaints including a bad back , poor circulation and poor muscle tone. Yoga improves the posture by strengthening the core back and abdominal muscles , elongating the spine and improving balance , coordination and muscle tone.

It is calming and de-stresses you
Controlled breathing and postures are good for clearing the mind.Relaxation is an essential part of any yoga class leaving you feeling balanced and calm.

It works the mind
Every movement in yoga is synchronised with the breath . When these movements are performed the mind and different parts of the brain are used. In inverted postures where the body is turned upside down it is good for you mentally as well as physically.

It cleanses the body
Some of the yoga breathing exercises cleanse toxins from the lungs. Kriyas are used as cleansing exercises for various parts of the body to release and flush out toxins.

It is suitable for all
Yoga is good for everyone young or old. Children who practice have good concentration , memory and stamina.Teenagers can become calmer and for the elderly it is good for maintaining the movement in the joints whilst being gentle on the heart. Yoga has helped people diagnosed with m.s , cancer , heart problems , asthma , m.e and those recovering from strokes and injuries to name a few. It is never too late to start yoga. If you are unsure check with your doctor before practicing.

Improves circulation
The increased blood flow due to the yoga postures improves the functioning of the internal organs. Fo example the headstand increases the blood supply to the brain and the heart. By increasing the flow to the head and brain memory , concentration and logic can improve. The emotional centres of the brain are also stimulated which help with psychological illnesses including anxiety , depression and behaviour problems.
