Viparita Karani – Legs up the wall
Or Reversing attitude or doing the opposite has become a โ€œgo to yoga asana โ€œ for many .

It can have a powerful effect on the nervous system soothing tired legs and promoting lymphatic drainage . In texts itโ€™s described as a mudra ,gesture to reverse vital energy and promote vitality .

Hereโ€™s some of my favourite ways to practice . Why not try them over the holiday period .

1. Simple one blanket under the lower back kidneys

2. Using blocks under the sacrum tilting the pelvis – when coming out remove one and stay for a while then the other gradually coming out

3. Block as a spacer , bolster under the sacrum and belt the ankles to stop legs turning out and coming apart

Sandbags on belly / feet are wonderful supports as is a hot water bottle if you plan to stay longer !

4. Vertical bolster particularly good if you find it difficult to get flush to the wall ,relax the legs wrap up with blanket over legs or around the head to promote relaxation
